Windows 8: Introduction, features and requirements

Windows 8 features

After the grand success of Windows 7, the next version is set to hit the market soon -- Windows 8. Yes, but before that a preview of it has already hit the web world. Microsoft has launched the developer preview of the updated operating system.

What can we get out of Windows 8? This may be the first question to many. We have compiled below few best features of this new OS:

Windows 8 features:

  • The launching of apps is real fast
  • The Start screen is tile-based and it is customisable along with scalable full-screen view of the apps
  • It has live tiles with notification feature. It will keep you up-to-date with all the information from your apps
  • The switching between the running apps are highly natural and fluid
  • It easily and conveniently snaps and re-sizes all your apps to the side of the screen. This helps in multitasking
  • You will experience fully touch-optimised browsing with it

According to D9 Conference Windows 8 demonstration, the new operating system is a reimagining of Windows from chip to interface. Your PC will turn to be a new kind of device after using Windows 8. It completely scales from touch-only small screens to the large screens which may be with or without keyboard and mouse.

More to this, the Windows 8 is based on HTML5 and JavaScript, and hence it can be easily ported as a Metro style application. It has been designed for 16:9 screen resolutions. Screens with minimum 1366 x 768 resolution can be able to display two Windows 8 applications in full screen, and 1024 x 768 screens will be able to display one Windows 8 application.
